"...Sergio Pereira, plays a lovely guitar, often Jobim-liike..he captures the musical essence of his native country, both as a player and composer...It was inevitably that music this good would carve out a special niche in the United States..."
Swingando
The leader's acoustic guitar is the backbone of the rhythm section, as well as an effective solo voice. He's memorable on electric guitar on "Ela," the only track where he goes electric. A very enjoyable collection which stays firmly in a Brazilian groove.
"...Easy-going charm - but fluent, attractive, elegant and warm - is the name of the game in Sergio Pereira's recent album. It's full of Brazilian soul, sunny, string-rich, and verdant - a true confrere ..."
His understanding of harmony, technique, and melodic form honed his skills as a composer, songwriter, arranger, and guitarist. Keeping his feet firmly in Brazilian traditions, Pereira expands his wings, interweaving elements of pop and jazz into the mix and fashioning uplifting soundscapes for a recreational lifestyle.

."..La dulzura de sus canciones se ve sacudida por la contundencia de sus acordes firmes y por unas medidas percusiones.... "
Lithe Brazilian samba like vintage Jobim is alive and well in the hands of Sergio Pereira...
Each piece is a sweet bon mot, with fragrant harmonies spilling over like a frothy drink on “Spring.”
Joy to behold on every track.

"...Sergio Pereira is at his best when he's playing acoustic guitar, inevitably reminding me of Earl Klugh playing opposite Benson..."
Composer, songwriter, arranger and guitarist Sergio Pereira offers Swingando. The Album is an expression of growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the 60’s and 70’s with a fresh sound of today’s Brazilian Jazz. The songs will take you on a journey of various Brazilian moods: from sipping a ‘Caipirinha’ by the quiet sunset of Leblon Beach to the powerful rhythms of modern Jazz Bossa. Recorded in New York City and Sao Paulo (Brazil), the album includes world-class musicians.
Pereira weaves and gentle and joyous session of mostly bossa novas and does so without referencing Jobim.
Sergio Pereira, an excellent guitarist…. A musician of great elegance and finesse….
An artist that displays great experience and a beautiful sensitivity that allows him to interpret every song of this project with great class and feeling….
Improvijazzation Nation "I absolutely love Sergio’s high-spirited Latin jazz guitar work...On “Chega Ai“, you’ll know you’re in the presence of a true Brazilian jazz master (our dearly departed musical friend George Duke would have loved this)..."
"I give Sergio and his high-talent players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.98 for this great jazz experience."

Some people just have the right touch. This Brazilian guitarist relocated to New York and hangs out with the crème of the Brazilian music community, many of which show up here. Breezy stuff that might finds it's seeds in samba but doesn't rely on it to make it's point, this is jazzy, snazzy and delightfully high octane in it's approach. Joyful playing that really spreads the good vibes, if this is nu Brazil, put us down for more. Well done.
Swingando brings all of the emotions, energy and dynamics of growing up in Rio and keeping deeply in touch with his culture, along with his life’s journey as a traveling and performing musician, while keeping his foot firmly in the Brazilian tradition, a delightfully authentic listen with a cavalcade of Brazilian heavyweights.
After making a guest appearance at the UN International Jazz Day celebration in 2014, he took the stage to perform some of his original compositions from the upcoming album “Swingando” featuring Brazilian jazz sounds
It is not easy to draw a distinction line between jazz and contemporary Brazilian songs in such tracks as Chega Ai or Ela, as they are simply inseparable. The instrumental Let It Out and, in particular Leblon attract us by the mastery of the guitar player, as well as by their brightness and the intensity of feelings.
Podcast 545 is my conversation with Sergio, who spoke with me while setting up his new home in Valencia, Spain, Musical selections include “My Girls” and Chega Ai", both of which features the killer rhythm section of Alves, Matta and da Fonseca; and the the more intimate “Ela.”
“…this music has no enfant-terrible explorations or music fireworks design to impress. Instead it has a mellow melodiousness, placing it firmly in the durable Brazilian tradition…”
“The outstanding soloists are leader Pereira and pianist Alves. The former reminded me of Barry Galbraith’s contribution to the Hawkins bossa nova album.”
